Workplaces
We spend much of our life at our respective workplaces. It is where we socialise, grow, nurture our abilities and earn an income to sustain our lifestyles. It is also where we spend majority of our waking hours. So it naturally becomes our environment that lends itself to our personality development.
Picture this: Workplace 1
A workplace where nobody is allowed to talk to anyone. Lunches are quiet affairs on the desk. Only interactions you have are work related and totally to the point. Nobody dares pass a smile or worst still, have a conversation with another colleague for the bosses might think they are wasting their time and have nothing to do.
Daily routine in such a place will look like this:
Arrive at work at the same time.
Sit down and work.
Eat lunch.
Work more. Go home. Work some more as the boss will be upset if you did not send them reports later tonight.
This entire process repeats the next day and carries on through the week. On the weekends, you are to still do some more work so you are able to prove to your boss you work really hard and are devoted to your company.
And now, Picture this: Workplace 2
You arrive at work and greet everyone, including the receptionist, security staff and anyone you see. There is a big smile followed by a 'Hey, how are you doing?" You are complimented on your attire, on how fresh you look and/or your hairstyle! You walk in to the office, with your mood lifted.
Before you sit down to work and crack on the day, you go get yourself a quick coffee. Some more happy banter in the pantry and you find yourself humming a happy tune.
With this uplifted mood, you take on the workload. It feels like a breeze. There have been some difficult conversations but well, nothing that can't be resolved or discussed further. Lunch time is a time to renew your energy and take a little break as you will be able to go for a short stroll to get those muscles exercised. Fresh air will help you think.
You get back to your desk, with a sense of rejuvenation, work away with more energy and then the day comes to a close. You look at the long list of things you had to do and mark off items on it, feeling proud of having a productive day.
As the day ends, it is time to leave work in the office and enjoy your personal time. There is the next day to worry about the remaining tasks!
Do you related with the Workplace 1 or Workplace 2?
